| Gordon Matta-Clark was born in 1943 in New York. He died at the age of 35. The main legacy of his highly modern work is the Cuttings process, which consisted in cutting shapes and volumes into disused buildings. Beyond the formal aspect, this practice was intended to free the living spaces from their social and utilitarian constraints. In 1975, on the occasion of the Biennale, Gordon Matta-Clark created a work in Paris entitled ?Conical Intersect? in which he cut a giant conical shape into a building situated 29 rue Beaubourg. Video-maker and photographer, Marc Petitjean, who had already been following the transformation of this area for many years then, and especially the history of 29 rue Beaubourg, also filmed Gordon?s work during the two weeks of its creation. The film focuses on the meeting between Marc?s photographical observations developed over the long term and Gordon?s work urgently performed on the same building. | |
